Preparatory construction works have officially commenced on the long-anticipated FIFA-Funded Technical Development Centre in Simon, St Andrew, marking a transformative step in the continued advancement of football infrastructure in Grenada by the Grenada Football Association (GFA).

The project moves into its construction phase following the recent groundbreaking ceremony attended by FIFA representatives, Government officials, community leaders, and national stakeholders. With preparatory works now underway, the GFA signals its commitment to delivering a state-of-the-art facility designed to elevate football development at every level.

The Technical Development Centre is being funded through FIFA’s global football development framework and aligns with the GFA’s strategic mandate to professionalise domestic football, strengthen governance structures, and create sustainable pathways from grassroots to elite competition.

Marlon Glean, President, GFA described the commencement of construction as a defining moment for the sport in Grenada. “This facility represents far more than bricks and mortar. It is an investment in our youth, our coaches, our referees, and the long-term structure of football in Grenada. It signals that we are building not just teams, but institutions and investing in the future of boys and girls in Grenada.”

Once completed, the centre will serve as a national hub for:

  • Grassroots and youth development programmes
  • Coaching and referee education
  • Women’s football initiatives
  • National team preparation and training
  • Administrative and technical capacity-building

The project is expected to have a meaningful impact on the surrounding community of Simon, St Andrew, generating economic activity during the construction phase and creating a permanent base for organised football activity in the parish.

Under the current administration, the GFA has prioritised infrastructure development as a cornerstone of its long-term vision. The Technical Development Centre complements ongoing investments in club support, women’s football, youth programmes, and international partnerships, reinforcing Grenada’s growing footprint within regional and global football circles.

President Glean added, “If Grenada is to compete regionally and internationally, we must build the systems and infrastructure that support excellence. Today’s commencement is another step toward that goal.”

The GFA will continue to provide updates as the project progresses.
