Pure Grenada Sailing Week 2026 wrapped up on 30 January after six days of racing and celebrations across Carriacou and Grenada, with the Grenada Tourism Authority (GTA) serving as Title Sponsor.

This year’s event marked a significant return to Carriacou following Hurricane Beryl, with the sister isle fully welcoming competitors and visitors and once again demonstrating its importance to Grenada’s maritime heritage.

The regatta began with the Rum to Spice feeder race from Barbados Sailing Week, bringing 8 racing yachts into Tyrell Bay ahead of final registration and the official welcome of the 23 boats registered. Everyone was welcomed by Shanai St Bernard, Nautical Development Manager for Grenada Tourism Authority and Race Officer James Beniot briefed all skippers regarding the rules and race information.

Racing opened with the Island Water World Around Carriacou Race, followed by the Clarke’s Court Boatyard & Marina offshore race from Carriacou to Grenada. After a lay day, Mount Gay Rum Race Day delivered competitive round-the-cans racing off the south coast, before the final Sea Hawk Paints race concluded the week’s competition.

Prizegiving and evening events were hosted at The Original Slipway in Carriacou, Le Phare Bleu Marina and Camper & Nicholsons Port Louis Marina at Victory Bar & Restaurant, with the final ceremony held at the recently opened Merveilles Hub, Chez Louis by Ora Caribbean, Port Louis. Stacey Liburd, CEO for Grenada Tourism Authority, attended the final ceremony and addressed the eager sailors ahead of the overall prize-giving. Liburd said, “Grenada Sailing Week is vital to our tourism landscape, as sailors not only race but also explore and become part of our communities. The connections made here extend beyond the finish line, spreading Grenada’s story far and wide. This week has reinforced Grenada’s reputation as a trusted destination for sailing and marine tourism. The organisation, professionalism, and collaboration displayed reflect the high standards we uphold. Thank you to the organising committee, sponsors, volunteers, race officials, and partners for your dedication. Your hard work is evident and deeply appreciated.”

Overall winners for the whole week by category

CSA 1

  • 1st Category 5 with Richard Szyjan for Grenada
  • 2nd Panacea x with Katy Campbell for Canada
  • 3rd Whistler with Peter Lewis for Barbados

CSA 2 Combined

  • 1st Galatea with Judd Tinius for Grenada
  • 2nd Spirit of Everest with Robbie Yearwood for Grenada
  • 3rd The Blue Peter with Mathew Barker for USA
  • J/80’s 1st – J/Star – Chris Rundlett for Grenada

Officially endorsed by the Caribbean Sailing Association (CSA), the regatta remains a key fixture on the regional sailing calendar and attracts regional and international competitors. As the southernmost event in the Caribbean circuit, it continues to showcase Grenada’s sailing conditions and warm hospitality.

Organisers say the continued partnership with the Grenada Tourism Authority reflects the growing importance of the marine and yachting sector to the destination and its long-term commitment to sailing tourism. 2027 dates are already fixed as part of the CSA racing series, 31 January to 5 February. Dates for 2028, 30 January to 4 February and for 2029, 28 January to 2 February.

A regatta has 5 main ingredients, some would say many more, but simply, yachts, racecourses and marks, sponsors, race committee and everything else, including wonderful volunteers and great venues. It takes many wheels inside the internal workings of a good traditional watch to make it work, and each one is essential to the smooth operation. Without the help from the sailing community, volunteers, and our great sponsors, Grenada Sailing Week wouldn’t happen, said the organisers.
