The Grenada Food and Nutrition Council (GFNC) is inviting Grenadians of all ages to take part in a simple yet powerful campaign: Fruity Wednesdays.

Children copy the behaviours of parents, guardians, and adults around them, so when adults proudly take part in Fruity Wednesdays, they set a powerful example for the next generation. While a few schools across the island have been practicing choosing fruit over processed snacks on a set day, GFNC’s vision is to see every school, from primary through tertiary, join the initiative. It is important to note that adults are encouraged to participate.

It’s a national pride issue

Grenada takes great pride in its culture, music, and traditions. Now it is time to channel that same enthusiasm into celebrating our local foods and selecting them as the preferred choice. Choosing fruits over processed snacks is not only healthier, it also supports our farmers, boosts national pride, and teaches our children the value of eating what we grow. By making this collective change, we can take a stand against rising health concerns linked to poor diet, including obesity, diabetes and heart disease.

A small action like swapping a snack once a week can spark lasting habits that benefit generations and progress into more conscious eating days.

Show your support! GFNC wants to see your pride in action. Share your Fruity Wednesday moments with us:

Photo submissions

  • Schools: Take a group photo with your fruit, along with a teacher, principal, vice-principal, dean, or another school leader
  • Adults of all ages: Snap a photo with at least 2 or more people enjoying local fruit together

Video Submissions: Record yourself or your group saying: “GFNC, we are having local fruits today as a snack.”

Send your photos and videos via WhatsApp to (473) 415-2126 or email them to [email protected]. GFNC will post them on all their social media platforms with #GFNCFruityWednesdays473.

Prizes:

There are no prizes to be won except your body celebrating the burst of local, nutrient-rich foods fueling it from the inside out.

Fruity Wednesdays is more than a weekly snack choice; it’s a community movement. By participating, you’ll be helping to build a healthier Grenada.

The hope is that more citizens will begin to wean themselves off unhealthy snacks and embrace our local fruits — instead choosing pride, choosing health, choosing local and choosing Grenada.
