The National Water and Sewerage Authority (Nawasa) advises the general public of a major challenge currently being experienced with the sewer outfall that services the St George’s Sewerage Network.
This blockage has been caused primarily by the continuous intrusion of foreign objects and excessive grease, resulting from improper disposal practices. These actions significantly impact the efficiency of the sewerage system and pose operational challenges. As a direct result, motorists and pedestrians in the Green Bridge area may experience an unpleasant odour.
Nawasa assures the public that immediate steps are being taken to resolve the issue. Our technical team has already mobilised the necessary resources to address this matter. Consequently, sewage disposal operations at the Green Bridge Disposal Facility have been temporarily discontinued while corrective works are ongoing.
In the coming days, the public will notice an increased presence of Nawasa personnel at the location as part of the response efforts, as we mobilise pipes and divers to the site. The public is advised to adhere to the precautionary measures that will be put in place on-site.
We take this opportunity to remind all residents and businesses of the importance of proper disposal practices. The indiscriminate disposal of grease, solid waste, and other foreign materials into the sewer network not only compromises the system but also negatively impacts the wider community.
Nawasa further assures that every effort is being made to restore normal operations in the shortest possible time and thanks the public for their patience and cooperation.
