Grenlec is enhancing its electricity service with the installation of 2 new generators at its Beausejour, Carriacou plant.
The new units will expand capacity to 4.2 MW, improving the reliability of supply and catering for future growth in demand.
Wallace Collins, Grenlec’s Department Manager, said, “These new units will allow us to serve customers more reliably and with greater flexibility. With additional generation, we can carry out maintenance on existing units without interrupting electricity service.”
The installation of the new generators will boost capacity following the 2023 fire, which damaged equipment at the plant. The company’s operations will also be strengthened by accompanying upgrades to the Beausejour plant’s control, safety and monitoring systems.
To facilitate commissioning, Grenlec has scheduled an island-wide outage in Carriacou on Sunday, 14 September 2025, from 6 am to 6 pm. Customers may also experience short interruptions during the week as testing and integration continue.
Grenlec apologises for any inconvenience and assures customers of a stronger, more reliable supply with the completion of the commissioning and upgrades.
