The Grenada Sustainable Development Trust Fund (GSDTF), with financing support from the Agence Française de Développement (AFD) under the Climate-Resilient and Blue Economy (CRBE) Project, will host a roundtable discussion with sea moss farmers on Thursday, 21 August 2025, at 10 am in the VIP Room of the Kirani James Athletic Stadium.

The Caribbean Regional Architecture for Biodiversity (CRAB Project) is working to strengthen the sea moss industry by supporting farmers and local communities across the Caribbean. Recognising both the economic potential of sea moss and the need for sustainable, inclusive growth, the project aims to provide small grants in countries such as St Lucia, Grenada, and St Vincent and the Grenadines. These grants will help farmers and community groups build capacity, adopt sustainable practices, improve market access, and increase the value of sea moss products. By doing so, CRAB not only empowers sea moss farmers but also promotes conservation, climate resilience, and long-term economic development in environmentally sensitive areas.

The discussion will highlight new opportunities for sea moss farmers to access funding through the GSDTF for projects that advance sustainable sea moss farming, promote value-added product development, and support community empowerment. Special emphasis will be placed on initiatives that engage women, youth, and marginalised groups, while fostering eco-friendly practices that protect marine ecosystems and strengthen local economies.

Through this consultation, sea moss farmers will be able to share ideas, network with peers, and contribute directly to shaping the future of Grenada’s blue economy. The session will also provide guidance on proposal development and the application process for funding opportunities.

Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the GSDTF Jennifer James explained that “Sea moss farming has immense potential not just as a livelihood, but as a driver of innovation, sustainability, and community transformation,” She further highlighted, “This round table will ensure that farmers are fully engaged in developing solutions that benefit people, the environment, and the Grenadian economy.”

The GSDTF encourages all sea moss farmers and stakeholders in the sector to attend and take advantage of this opportunity to build partnerships and advance Grenada’s leadership in sustainable marine resource development. Interested farmers can contact the office for more information or click on this link to register their interest: https://forms.gle/cuZ1F9GeJsi2btvW8.
