Research suggests that nutrition counselling sessions are beneficial, yet they are underutilised.
Whether intentional or because of habit, poor food choices, improper preparation of foods and overindulgence contribute to health challenges. Hence, the Grenada Food and Nutrition Council (GFNC), advises the public that In-House Nutrition Counselling sessions are available on Tuesdays and Thursdays at their Archibald Avenue office.
A growing body of scholarly writings, including those by Yetkin & Baser (2025), Alzahrani et al (2024), Marshall et al (2021) and Neri et al (2024), confirm that nutrition counselling significantly improves dietary habits. The knowledge gained during these sessions can help individuals manage a wide range of conditions, from chronic diseases such as diabetes, cardiovascular disease, cancer, and obesity to sexually transmitted infections.
Nutrition counselling is also beneficial for women and men preparing to start families, expectant and new mothers, and athletes striving for peak performance. Furthermore, an editorial in Frontiers in Nutrition entitled Nutritional Counselling for Lifestyle Nutrition states that counselling helps both adults and children connect healthy food choices with better health and wellness. Therefore, nutritionists help clients make informed decisions about which foods to include in their diet and which to avoid to prevent or manage health conditions.
GFNC encourages the following persons to schedule a nutrition counselling appointment:
- Adults and children seeking to improve overall health and wellness
- Individuals managing chronic conditions such as diabetes, cardiovascular disease, cancer, or obesity
- People living with or at risk of sexually transmitted infections (HIV, Herpes, Hepatitis B, HPV)
- Women and men planning to start families

- Athletes aiming to optimise performance
- Individuals with specific dietary restrictions or food allergies
