A unifying event that honours the resilience, sacrifice and legacy of our African ancestors, the National Emancipation Celebration Committee is preparing to host the National Emancipation Celebrations 2025 under the theme, “Remembering our Past. Reclaiming our Roots. Empowering our Future.”
Hon. Adrian Thomas, Minister for Tourism, Creative Economy and Culture, explained that the theme underlines the need to “Reflect on the legacy of slavery and celebrate the achievements of Grenadians, post-Emancipation.”
With the amendment to legislation to observe Emancipation on 1 August, instead of the first Monday in August, Chief Executive Officer of the Grenada Cultural Foundation Livingston Nelson appeals to the public to join and support the national activities. Nelson said, “Grenadians should be proud, to educate, uplift, and unite, as we honour the legacy of our ancestors and reflect on our journey from slavery to freedom.”
