The Government of Grenada has swiftly mobilised resources to investigate the recent discovery of dead fish and the sudden discolouration of sections of the seawater in the Calivigny Harbour.
On Friday, a specialised team was dispatched, comprising personnel from the ministries of the Blue Economy and Marine Affairs, Climate Resilience, Environment, and Renewable Energy and Health.
Accompanied by Coast Guard officials, the team conducted a site visit of the affected area, safely collecting, storing, and transporting water samples, sediment and dead organisms for analysis. Marine disturbances like dead fish and water discolouration can result from several environmental and human-induced factors.
Investigating the specific cause in Calivigny Harbour will require thorough testing and analysis. In the meantime, experts have advised the public to exercise caution in the use of this area.
The government remains committed to identifying the cause of these occurrences and ensuring the protection of our marine environment and public health.
