Grenada’s Hydrocarbons Technical Working Group (TWG) has been appointed by the Cabinet of Grenada to fully assess Grenada’s hydrocarbon potential and, if found to be commercially viable, devise a strategy and action plan to explore, develop and monetise such findings for the benefit of the citizens and the patrimony of the State of Grenada.

The deliverables of the Technical Working Group are:

  1. A comprehensive report on Grenada’s hydrocarbon potential, including an assessment of the geological and geophysical data, estimates of reserves and potential production, recommendations for exploration and development strategies, mitigation measures, and policies and regulations to promote investment and development
  2. A report on the technical and economic feasibility of developing Grenada’s hydrocarbon reserves
  3. iii. A report on the potential environmental and social impacts of hydrocarbon exploration and development in Grenada, and strategies to mitigate these impacts
  4. A report on the legal and regulatory framework required to support the exploration and development of Grenada’s hydrocarbon reserves
  5. A report on capacity-building initiatives to support the development of a skilled workforce in the hydrocarbon sector in Grenada
  6. A communication strategy to engage stakeholders, including communities, civil society organisations, and the private sector
  7. vii. A set of policies and strategies for the sustainable exploration and development of Grenada’s hydrocarbon resources
  8. viii. Recommendations for potential partners and investors, including a plan to attract and retain them.
  9. A stakeholder engagement plan that outlines the approach, mechanisms and processes for engaging with relevant stakeholders throughout the exploration and development process

Qualified young Grenadian citizens are strongly encouraged to apply for the Hydrocarbon Legal Intern position. This role presents an excellent opportunity for legal professionals to gain hands-on experience in petroleum law and regulatory frameworks while actively contributing to the development of Grenada’s hydrocarbon sector. The selected intern will work closely with the Legal Consultant, conducting legal research, reviewing existing legislation and assisting in the formulation of legal and regulatory recommendations for the Government of Grenada.

Core responsibilities of the Hydrocarbon Legal Intern include:

  1. Assist in the review of treaties, contracts and agreements between the Government of Grenada and external entities concerning hydrocarbon resources
  2. Conduct legal research on international best practices in petroleum law and regulatory frameworks
  3. Assist with the review of Grenada’s Petroleum Act and related legislation to identify gaps and deficiencies
  4. Assist in compiling and analysing legal and contractual documents related to hydrocarbon exploration and development
  5. Support the Legal Consultant in drafting recommendations for updating Grenada’s petroleum-related laws and regulations
  6. Support the Legal Consultant by providing Grenadian local law advice
  7. Research and analyse fiscal regimes, licensing frameworks and competitive bidding mechanisms for hydrocarbon exploration
  8. Assist in reviewing potential investment agreements and expressions of interest from external parties
  9. Provide administrative and logistical support to the legal team where necessary
  10. Assist in liaising with government agencies, industry stakeholders and external legal experts
  11. Ensure compliance with governmental regulations and internal policies in all legal tasks

The preferred mix of qualifications, experience and competencies includes:

  1. A bachelor’s degree in law
  2. A Legal Education Certificate and admission to the bar in Grenada
  3. A minimum of 5 years of experience as a practicing attorney
  4. Excellent time management skills with a proven track record of meeting deadlines
  5. Demonstrated leadership skills
  6. Strong organisational abilities
  7. High emotional intelligence and negotiation skills
  8. Outstanding written and oral communication skills
  9. Excellent numerical and analytical skills
  10. Strategic thinking capabilities
  11. Problem-solving skills
  12. Proficiency in Microsoft Office and collaboration tools

Knowledge of the oil and gas industry will be an asset.

Salary is commensurate with qualifications and experience. The successful candidate must be prepared to work remotely.

Interested professionals who meet or exceed the requirements are invited to submit their applications by email only to [email protected] by 22 May 2025.

Shortlisted applicants will be further contacted.
