In an exciting display of teamwork, critical thinking, and nutrition knowledge, St Patrick’s Catholic School emerged as the 2025 National Nutrition Quiz Champion at the annual competition held on 10 April 2025, at the Grenada Youth Centre.

The event, hosted by the Grenada Food and Nutrition Council (GFNC), which falls under the Ministry of Agriculture, brought together top-performing primary schools from zonal contests to test their knowledge of nutrition and healthy lifestyles.

Under the guidance of teacher Erica St Cyr, the winning team, comprising Nathan Olive, Kaion Andrew, Myah Chitterman, and Anilia Phillip, earned an impressive score of 72.5 points. Presenting them with their well-deserved trophy and prizes was Deborah Grey, Nutrition Curriculum Officer at the Ministry of Education and board member for the council.

Hillsborough Government School earned second place with a commendable 67.5 points, coached by Sarissa Stanisclaus, with team members Jahim Alexander, Jharmani Joseph, D’Niyah Frank, and J-zai Leggard.

In a dramatic sudden-death finish, Mt Rose Seventh Day Adventist (SDA) School secured third place with 63.5 points. Congratulations to their teacher Kelisha Noel and students Amia Hamlet, Jazella Smart, Nickel McLeod, and Leandre George. St George’s SDA School placed fourth, showing impressive poise and knowledge with their cumulative points of 62.5. Their team — Rayden Jerome, Karlida Frank, Kaylin Noel, and Johnathan Jacobs, under the leadership of Sabrina Lalite — are recognised for their efforts.

The GFNC Chief Executive Officer (CEO) is pleased with the proceedings. “Congratulations to all the participants of this year’s quiz! Your outstanding nutrition knowledge is truly inspiring and deserving of celebration. This quiz goes beyond being a mere test, it serves as a spark to ignite a lifelong passion for nutrition education and to foster a culture of wellness that positively shapes children’s lives. But education alone is not enough. The Government, alongside principals, teachers, parents, and children, must unite as ambassadors of change. By collaborating to create supportive environments, we can empower young minds to build healthy relationships with food. Together, we can leave a lasting impact and pave the way for a healthier future for the children of Grenada, Carriacou, and Petite Martinique,” said Lydia Browne.

  • Foodland
  • Jonas Browne & Hubbard (Grenada) Ltd
  • National Lotteries Authority (NLA)
  • Poli Natural Spring Water Ltd.

  • Smart Buy Groceries (Juver Juice)

Other entities that provided outstanding support are the Government Information Service (GIS) and Digital Media Solutions Inc., with special mention of Mikey Hutchinson for ensuring nationwide access to the event via livestream and broadcast.

The GFNC also proudly acknowledged all schools that participated in the zonal rounds, presenting certificates of participation as a token of appreciation for their hard work and commitment to nutrition awareness. This annual event is part of GFNC’s broader mission to promote the health and well-being of the Grenadian population, encouraging them to make informed food choices and practice healthy lifestyles.
