- Redhead elected PRO at March 2025 party convention
- National Democratic Congress has amended its constitution so that groups can become non voting members
- Inclusion of groups as non voting members will have significant influence on party policies
Ron Redhead, Public Relations Officer for the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) said the party has made an amendment to its constitution that will provide for groups such a labour union or a credit union to become non voting members of the party.
“One of the things that we have done in the review [of the] constitutional process of the NDC is to ensure that we included the membership of groups. So we want to announce this, because this is something we intend to role out in time, where even a credit union or a labour union could become a non voting member of the National Democratic Congress,” Redhead said during his appearance on the Grenada Broadcasting Network’s “To-the-Point” programme.
The Wednesday morning one-hour talk show is assigned to the Government to inform the general public about Government decisions. Redhead, who had his ministerial portfolio of Sports and Education revoked in January 2024, said that the inclusion of groups will have a significant influence on the policies adopted by the party.
“They will have tremendous influence and power on the party, on its policy or platform going into government and other aspects of building the society,” he said, justifying the decision to have groups become non voting members. “As a party and an institution, we want to ensure that we build the party as an institution into the fabric of society; not only just around election time, you call and you say, well come vote for me etc., but to be a part of the people.”
Pointing out that a new wave of energy is emerging in the party, Redhead, who was elected PRO at the March 2025 convention, said that collaboration is always beneficial because it helps maintain the party’s momentum following a general election.
