The Ministry of Health has detected an increase in the number of reported cases of Sexually Transmitted Infections (STIs) across the country.
Of particular concern is genital discharge syndrome associated with infections like gonorrhea, chlamydia, and trichomoniasis.
The ministry urges people to take the necessary precautions to protect their sexual and reproductive health.
Key recommendations:
- Avoid risky behaviour, including having multiple sexual partners or unprotected sex
- Practice safer sex: Always use condoms and other preventative methods to reduce the risk of STIs
- Seek medical advice: If you suspect you have an STI, contact your medical provider promptly
- Get tested regularly: For early detection and treatment of STIs, visit your nearest health facility for diagnostic and treatment services
- Vaccinate: Human Papillomavirus (HPV) and Hepatitis B vaccines are available at all primary healthcare facilities
- Educate yourself: Stay informed about the ways to prevent STIs and the importance of safe sexual practices
Resources are available at the Health Promotion Department and National Infectious Disease Control Unit of the Ministry of Health.
The Ministry of Health reaffirms its commitment to ensuring the wellbeing of all citizens. Stay Safe, Stay Healthy.

I understand from a recent conversation with a medical colleague in Grenada, that syphilis is rampant on the Spice Isle and rarely diagnosed due to its varied or non existent symptomatology. This is a public health issue and should be addressed immediately as a public awareness statement and policy for this current administration.
