Senator Andre Lewis, who is also the President of the Grenada Technical and Allied Workers Union (GTAWU) and the Labour Movement representative in the Senate, was re-elected to serve as the president of the management committee of Grenada Trades Union Council (GTUC).
A news release from the council said that he was re-elected when the umbrella body for trade unions in Grenada held its 17th Biennial Convention on Saturday, 29 March 2025, at the Public Workers Union (PWU) Conference Room.
The management committee for the term 2025–2027 sees Cephas Chase serving as 1st Vice President and Kenny James serving as the 2nd Vice President. These posts were previously held by Brian Grimes, former PWU president, and Jude Bartholomew of the Grenada Union of Teachers (GUT), respectively.
Paula Phillip was retained as Treasurer, while Daisy Hazzard, who was recently elected as PWU president, was elected as General Secretary, a post previously held by Bert Paterson.
The other management committee members are Assistant General Secretary/Treasurer Joseph Mitchell — a post he retained, and trustees Richard Chase and Malisa Sandy, posts previously held by Richard Chase and Cephas Chase.
Formed in 1955, the GTUC serves as the central coordinating body for trade unions in Grenada and is affiliated with the International Trade Union Council and the Caribbean Congress of Labour.
The GTUC represents the interests of both unionised and non-unionised workers, lobbying for their rights and well-being and participating in discussions and initiatives involving government, employers, and workers’ representatives. The GTUC is concerned with the welfare of workers, which includes securing fair wages, improving opportunities for promotion and training, safeguarding security of tenure, improving their conditions of service, and improving working and living conditions of workers.

I am wondering if Grenada has a shortage of qualified people?
Why is this guy union leader and senator at the same time?
