The Ministry of Climate Resilience, the Environment, and Renewable Energy will on Wednesday, 27 November host the National Validation of the Revised National Climate Change Adaptation Plan (NAP) for the period 2025–2030.
This pivotal event will take place at the True Blue Bay Resort Conference Room.
Dr Roxanne Graham, National Climate Adaptation Officer with the National Adaptation Plan Project, highlighted the significance of this exercise as a critical step toward finalising the updated NAP. She stated, “The validation provides stakeholders with an opportunity to verify the goals, objectives, measures, and timelines outlined in the revised NAP. This process ensures consensus and prepares the document for submission to the National Climate Change Committee (NCCC) and ultimately, to Cabinet for approval.”
Key highlights of the validation process
The event will feature remarks by Honorable Kerryne James, Minister for Climate Resilience, the Environment and Renewable Energy and other key ministerial representatives, underscoring the milestone’s importance. Stakeholders will also hear from major contributors to the revision process, including representatives from G-CREWS Project and the NAP Global Network.
Discussions will centre around:
- Key differences between the updated NAP and its predecessor, including alignment with Grenada’s Second Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs)
- Strategic actions and measures, emphasising the transition from planning to implementation
- Financial advisory insights, with a roundtable discussion on climate finance access, adaptation financing, and broader financial strategies for implementing the plan
“This event is not just about validating a document,” Dr Graham emphasised, “It’s about charting a clear path forward — from planning to action — so that we can build a climate-resilient Grenada.”
Objectives and Next Steps
The primary outcome of the event is to produce a validated NAP document, one that reflects broad stakeholder support and readiness for submission to the National Climate Change Committee for endorsement, and subsequently, to Cabinet for approval.
The ministry remains committed to a transparent, inclusive, and results-driven process to combat the challenges of climate change.
