by Grenada Food and Nutrition Council
The Grenada Food and Nutrition Council (GFNC) is dedicated to supporting individuals living with chronic conditions or suffering from concerning nutritional intake levels like malnutrition or unhealthy dietary habits.
Our team provides home visits for those attending public clinics and those unable to attend in person. During these visits, individuals and their caregivers receive educational sessions on nutrition and health management to help them better manage their conditions.
The support extended to people with chronic non-communicable diseases is often limited to those classified as shut-ins. Common conditions of such can have diabetes, cancer, kidney failure, hypertension, and the effects of strokes. These specific shut-ins often have mobility concerns caused by amputations or restricted due to vision loss as a result of their chronic illness. GFNC nutrition officers also visit families with children identified as underweight or at risk by clinic nurses or doctors. During these visits, we provide guidance on feeding habits and offer nutrition education to empower parents and guardians to make informed decisions about their children’s health.
While supplies last, GFNC delivers food baskets to families in need, including fresh local produce whenever possible. Additionally, select individuals are given vegetable seedlings to encourage home gardening and help reduce food costs. If you would like to support this initiative or donate, please contact us at 473-440-2126 or email [email protected]. Your contributions can make a life-changing difference for families in need.
