After years of talks about the implementation of night-landing facilities at Carriacou’s Lauriston Airport, this soon will be a reality.

The Grenada Airports Authority (GAA) has been mandated by Prime Minister and Minister for Infrastructure Development and Civil Aviation Hon. Dickon Mitchell to ensure the facilities are put in place.

Government has budgeted $250,000 towards the project’s completion and, by year-end, Lauriston Airport will be accommodating night landing.

GAA’s Chief Executive Officer Edgar Stephen said the Airports Authority has the capacity to get the work done, while also noting all the positive economic and other benefits to be derived from night landing.

Stephen, who was accompanied by GAA Director Clifford Campbell and members of the airport’s senior management team, said part of their objective is to improve connectivity to Carriacou and increase the frequency of flights to the island. Already, that process has started with the hiring of 3 Grenadian pilots by SVG Air; this will result in service to the island 6 days a week rather than 5.

Upgrade work will also be done on the terminal building. The input of stakeholders in this whole process is valuable; therefore, a stakeholders’ engagement is planned for next month.

A technical team is presently on the island to look at the placement of the obstruction lights [aircraft warning lights] to facilitate night landing. Meanwhile, 2 young people will be given the opportunity to be trained as air traffic controllers.

    This is good news.

However Carriacou + PM need a new airport located elsewhere so private jets can land 24/7. Maybe they can build a new airport at Dumfries Estate or some other suitable site away from populated areas? Canouan is half the size or less of Carriacou + PM and it has a 4,500 ft airport for private jets and 24/7 night landing capacity. Carriacou +PM need a regional airport so 40 seaters or private jets can land 24/7.

Frankly Carriacounans and PM’ers are tired of been treated as second class citizens or some backwater colony of Grenada. Carriacou + PM needs serious tourism hotel and resort development of scale and size. Carriacou +PM need its own global advertising budget handled by a promotions team based in Carriacou + PM. You need people who know Carriacou +PM and have an affinity for Carriacou + PM. Marketing Professioals who can tell the Carriacou + PM story When we look at Bequia and see how many world class 5 Star hotels and resorts they have it makes one wonder how much longer Carriacouans + PM’ers can tolerate this disrespect and lack of consideration from mainland Grenada. Carriacou + PM would boom if it was an independent nation. Kayaks can do bad ALL by themselves. They dont need Grenadians to speak for them on world stage. David Paterson, former Lt. Governor and Governor of New York State is of Carriacouan stock. This shows the kind of stock and quality of individuals Carriacou has produced and can produce to handle Carriacou +PM affairs on a global basis. Many Carriacouans feel Grenadians are intentionally holding back Carriacou + PM because every dollar spent in Grenada and not in Carriacou + PM is a win for Grenadian so-called big boys and petty bourgeous elites. Time for Carriacouans +PM’ers to wake up and chart their on course! Our ancestors where the best boat builders and boat captains in the world. Charting a new course is nothing for us to do if we apply ourselves, navigating and charting new courses is in our DNA. Time for Carriacouans and Petite Martiniquans to Re-think our relationship with mainland Grenada. Its nice to get night landing capacity but its long over due bread crumbs. We dont need crumbs off another man table. We can acquire our own oven and bake our own loafs of bread. Thank you very much.

Every man crab should have he own hole!

Come to think of it maybe we should wait and build our own brand new aiport in an Independent Nation of Carriacou + PM one day?

Go ahead and laugh. Every ting starts with a Dream and Action !!

    The Struggle Continues…….

The PM is not a god. Grenadians should stop using god’s name so much as it amplifies their own failure.
