Women play a pivotal role in the development of society and in tribute to them, 8 March is being celebrated as International Women’s Day.
On the occasion, Minister for Carriacou and Petite Martinique Affairs and Local Government Hon. Tevin Andrews recognised the women of Carriacou and Petite Martinique. He referenced several women who have contributed to the twin-isle parish such as former Parliamentarian Joan Purcell and Area Education Officer Rosalina Patrice-Lendore.
Minister Andrews also called on women to be more supportive of one another. His comments were made at a special event organised by the Division of Social Development within his Ministry in recognition of International Women’s Day.
The event’s focus was on women’s health and included an interactive presentation by local doctor Dr Leanna Mclawrence-Siesa. She discussed topics such as menstruation, menopause and emotional health. In addition, Dr Mclawrence-Siesa expounded on the importance of women taking charge of their health, understanding the various changes their bodies undergo, and of women being supportive of their sisters.
International Women’s Day 2024 is being celebrated under the theme, “Count her in, Inspire, Inclusion.”
