A 2-day workshop, focusing on the elimination of violence against women and children, is being held in Carriacou under the Grenada Spotlight Initiative, supported by the Ministry of Carriacou and Petite Martinique Affairs and Local Government.
Representative from the Ministry, Personnel Officer Dr Vernesta Noel-Smart said giving support to such initiatives benefits the community of Carriacou and Petite Martinique. She urged the participants to not see the workshop as just gaining information but to utilise what is learnt to inform others in tackling the issue of gender-based violence.
Encouraging the over 30 participants to be advocates, Programme Coordinator of the Grenada Spotlight Initiative Elaine Henry-McQueen said this requires commitment and focus from all those involved.
The Grenada Spotlight Initiative, which started in 2020, is a project of the United Nations and supported by the European Union and other arms of the UN, including the United Nations Women.
The theme for the workshop, at Cassada Bay Resort is “Understanding Gender-Based Violence and Domestic Violence: Beyond Physical Abuse.”
