The first step in the zoning of Carriacou’s famous Paradise Beach has commenced.
Security lights are being installed as part of the process to ensure beach users feel a sense of security, especially at night.
The lights are being installed free of cost, compliments Classique Caribbean Lighting. Earlier this year, Minister for Carriacou and Petite Martinique Affairs and Local Government Hon. Tevin Andrews, along with Permanent Secretary Javan Williams and officials from the Division of Agriculture, met with stakeholders in the area to discuss the issue of zoning.
Minister Andrews noted then that the zoning of Paradise Beach should be considered important not only for tourism development but also local beach users. He added that with the zoning, no longer would boats be allowed to be in the same area where swimming takes place.
Meanwhile, plans are being considered for the island’s first underwater sculpture park. The idea of the underwater park was raised during a recent tourism stakeholders meeting held by the Grenada Tourism Authority.
Ministry for Carriacou and Petite Martinique Affairs
Carriacou is one gorgeous little island. Do not let it become destroyed like the beautiful place in Thailand were. People came to see paradise and trampled it out of existence.
since when does turtle goes to paradise beach to nest? come on you guys get a grip you all just doesn’t want to see progress
What attracts most people to Carriacou is the fact you are quieter than Grenada. Look at that as an advantage not a detriment. PROTECT the environment, the turtles better than Grenada has for the sake of a dollar. Don’t let any Mangroves be destroyed. We want real Caribbean not transplanted North American crap.
The minister should focus on improving Healthcare on the island.
Private healthcare should not be allowed to replace public universal healthcare.
The minister should focus on improving Healthcare on the island. It seems governments after government relinquished their responsibility while private healthcare takes over.
Private healthcare should not be allowed to replace public universal healthcare.
Ahh well , The End Of An Era ,Big Brother doesn’t take small bites
Here they come , money has been channeled to the co-harts
Small lights – nope ,Soon enough Big massive florescent & mooring
Turtle’s that’s been nesting since Time began .adios ..kayak C’mon youse gotta say something
They make decisions as if they are gods but are humble when they beg for votes. The minister is already too comfortable. This is not the boots on the ground I supported. He will never get another vote from me.
Carriacou is beautiful and quieter then Grenada. Less visitors from abroad which maintains more local culture I think. The island will see increasing tourist trade just like all do, more money comes in, more developments by foreign investors and before you know it… identity begins to fade away.
Jazmine,
I totally agree…….
“Development’s” cost
Cost what?
There are many ways to develop without destroying traditional values.
Carriacou seriously need its own local government.
This is good news! The beautiful beach was a stop off for me many times coming back to my boat in Tyrrell bay from windward or hillsborough. Good food there up by the road . Rotis.
Please Watch that those security lights don’t disturb the wildlife, including nesting turtles. Thank you.
Yes. Agreed. “Progress*” should not destroy our natural ecosystems or habitats.
