It is with great sadness that the members and associates of the Inter Agency Group of Development Organisations (IAGDO) have heard of the passing of Sister Madonna Harford, former President of the Grenada Trade Union Council and the Public Workers Union.

We recall with sincere gratitude the commitment of Sister Harford, in her position as head of the labour sector, to the development of the Code of Political Conduct to Guide the Election Campaign by civil society and the non-state actors, guided by Judy Williams (R.I.P) of the Inter Agency Group of Development Organisations; and the subsequent public signing ceremony of the Code by representatives of political parties and independent candidates re the general elections of 2008 and 2013.

We remember the role played by Sister Harford as part of the CSO/non-state actors delegations which held several meetings with representatives of the major political parties and the Royal Grenada Police Force in an effort to diffuse the great tensions that prevailed and concerns about possible clashes in respect of the final Sunday motorcades and rallies prior to election day in 2008.

Sister Madonna truly appreciated and respected the contribution of the IAGDO and its member agencies to national development in Grenada. Besides Brother Derek Allard (may he rest in peace), she was the only other labour leader who took the time to know the name of the network and not simply refer to the IAGDO as “dem NGOs and dem”!! Thank you, Sister Madonna!

She was a public servant par excellence. She served with professionalism, integrity and great helpfulness to the ordinary citizen. We salute her contributions to national development in the various public service positions that she occupied and within the labour movement.

We join the nation in offering condolences to the family, the trade union fraternity, particularly the Public Workers Union, friends and colleagues of Sister Madonna and in celebrating her life and contribution to national development.

Well done, Sister Madonna! Rest in peace!!
