On 24 March 2023, the GHTA-supported Floriculture Cluster Project hosted a one-day horticultural training workshop at The Tower, St Paul’s, led by Agricultural Consultant Thaddeus Constantine.Â
The workshop was part of the Compete Caribbean’s sponsored horticultural project, aimed at increasing the knowledge capacity of small horticultural farmers on the island, expanding production, and meeting the demand for tropical flowers that feed into the tourism industry.
Constantine, who spent 2 weeks in Grenada visiting small horticultural farms, provided insights on viruses, farm management plans, pesticides, and fertilisers. The workshop was highly interactive, allowing participants to share their expertise and gain practical knowledge from the consultant. Among the 31 attendees were former President of the GHTA Jerry Rappaport, Ramona Sinanan of Compete Caribbean, and Extension Officer Sherwin Joseph from the Ministry of Agriculture.
Ramona Sinanan of Compete Caribbean opened the proceedings by commending the GHTA for its unwavering support of the project as the Business Support Organisation, and the Ministry of Agriculture for its contributions. The workshop was the second such project that demonstrated a close collaboration between Compete Caribbean and the GHTA. Participants expressed their gratitude for the Compete Caribbean funding and the GHTA’s support, highlighting the benefits of the project for their individual businesses.
The horticultural training workshop has empowered growers in Grenada, providing them with the necessary skills and knowledge to meet local demand, expand production, and contribute to the tourism industry’s growth. The GHTA remains committed to supporting this critical initiative that is boosting Grenada’s economy and creating opportunities for small businesses.
