The Grenada Amateur Swimming Association hails last weekend’s PowerAde/Dasani National Swimming Championship a success.

The National Championship returned last week from Thursday, 23 February to Sunday, 26 February, after a 3-year break due to the Covid-19 Pandemic. The event saw the return to the pool of just over 100 swimmers competing in 5 age group categories.

Present at the Opening ceremony were the Minister for Implementation, Mobilisation and Transformation Honourable Andy Williams; President of the Grenada Olympic Committee Bunny Wilson; General Secretary of the Grenada Olympic Committee Veda Bruno-Victor, and Title sponsor representative Nekoyan Bain, among others.

Team Grenfin retained the title of National Champion as they swam away with a resounding victory. They were followed by Sailfish in second position and Solid Base Triathlon team in third. Sauteurs Breakwater Swim Group was fourth.

GASA welcomed the first-time appearance of 2 new swim groups, Solid Base and the Breakwater Swim group from Sauteurs, to the Powerade/Dasani National Swimming Championships. In their first appearance, Solid Base captured the Male 8 and under age-group champion title by Mateo Thomas, while Rodriquez Jules of the Sauteurs Breakwater Swim group earned a bronze medal in the 50-yard backstroke in the boys 15-17 age group.

GASA now has the task of reviewing the results to determine the swimmers who have qualified for the upcoming Carifta Swim Championship carded for Curacao in April. Based on the performances, we anticipate a number of first-time qualifiers will emerge as Carifta qualified.

Other age group champions are as follows:

  • 9-10: Nataly Escobar (female) of Grenfin and Rowan Brow (male) of Sailfish
  • 11-12: Zeia Ollivierre (female) of Grenfin and Jacob Collymore (male) of Sailfish
  • 13-14: Victoria Buxo (female) of Grenfin and Mallon Patterson (male) of Grenfin
  • 15 and Over: Sara Dowden (female) of Grenfin and Zackary Gresham (male) of Grenfin
