Creating better access to farmlands and homes is one of the priorities for the Division of Agriculture within the Ministry of Carriacou and Petite Martinique Affairs and Local Government.
The Division, using their bulldozer, is presently engaged in the clearing of access roads on the northern side of the island.
Senior Agricultural Officer Benson Patrice said some of the access roads being reopened had been abandoned for well over 50 years. He said that so far, community residents have shown a great level of appreciation for the work being done.
The Division of Agriculture is also supporting the Division of Sports in the upgrading and expanding of the Dover Playing Field.
The Dover Playing Field is considered one of the main sporting grounds on the island. However, for the past few years, no sporting events have been held there, and the neighbouring Dover Government School has had to resort to staging its annual sports meet at the Hillsborough Recreational Grounds.
At the moment, backfill is being dumped, and a new area has been cleared to provide for the expansion of the field. Upon completion, it is hoped that sporting activities, including Dover Government School’s track meet, will recommence at Dover Playing Field.
