  • Deputy Commissioner Pierre is first Grenadian and first Caricom citizen to be awarded
  • Great Wall Commemorative Silver Medal established in 2020
  • Virtual ceremony to announce recognition was done in November 2022

Tafawa Pierre, Deputy Commissioner of Police, has become the first Grenadian and, by extension, a citizen within Caricom, to receive the Great Wall Commemorative Silver Medal, established by the Ministry of Public Security of the People’s Republic of China, in 2020.

“The medal is awarded especially to law enforcement officers from foreign countries who have made outstanding contributions toward protecting the safety of Chinese citizens,” said the letter from the Chinese Embassy in Grenada informing him about the award.

The virtual ceremony to announce the recognition was done in November 2022, but the actual medal was presented to Pierre at the Chinese Embassy in Grenada on 22 February 2023.

“On February 22, 2023 I handed over to the Deputy Commissioner of the RGPF of Grenada Mr Tafawa Pierre, the Great Wall Commemorative Silver Medal issued by the Ministry of Public Security of China, serving as a tribute to his significant contribution in law enforcement cooperation,” said a post on the Twitter page of Ambassador Wei Hongtian of the Chinese Embassy in Grenada.

In the letter informing him about the award, Pierre was told, “As a world-renowned leading official from the law enforcement department, you are among the first recipients of the Great Wall Commemorative Medal. The Ministry of Public Security of China has proposed to hold the presentation ceremony at the opening of the First Conference and invite HE Wang Xiaohong to personally announce the recipients of the Medal, presenting to the world your award of the special honour and serving as a tribute to your significant contributions.”

Pierre expressed his delight to be the first person in the region to receive the award, but for confidential reasons, was unable to disclose the special law enforcement cooperation he participated in as part of “protecting the safety of Chinese citizens.”

“It was a regional initiative,” commented Pierre when asked what special task he participated in to earn such a distinct recognition.

Bogus CRAP. Chinese have no right to be involved with any law enforcement in ANY foreign country. This is a lame attempt to garner favours in Grenada. Wake up to the Chinese FINANCIAL COLONIALIZATION that has even happening on Grenada for years now. They are NOT your friends. They see easy targets and come for what they can take. Educate yourselves as toothed Chinese impact on the Seychelles islands. There is a world outside of Grenada.

Chinese are getting involved in ‘internal Grenadian affairs” advise Peking to focus on China ( lots of problems – covid released by a Chinese lab that caused Covid ) Can you trust China ? If you say yes : time to study before the next question !!!

I agree with you Sandy. Mr. Pierre Should have never accepted this ,what ever it is. This gentleman is not the RFG. So he single handily protect the Chinese citizens from what? Or is he ,as they say in intelligence circles, a chinese asset within the RFG. Mr. Police commissioner we need to hear from you on this very serious matter. It’s a matter of national security.

A Chinese medal _ sad and pathetic . The Government of Grenada is slowly allowing China to be its soul mate ! BIG MISTAKE . Perhaps the politicians in Grenada need a lesson in Chinese colonial ( soft ) history !

congratulations mr pierre. you deserve every accolade afforded to you. you are a brilliant young man who earned your position within the RGPF..Give a deaf ear to the politics and petty jealousy.. Take a bow

    • Sandy says:

There is nothing to be jealous about. You’re more or less a Chinese troll.

This act is treasonous…and this officer should be removed from the police on the grounds of national security.

Chinese can only do this in Banana Republics.

Grenada needs a third viable political party to break the cycle of the two current corrupt political faction.

This should never be accepted and allowed. This a clear infiltration by the Chinese. A top police officer is more or less bought. Grenadians can’t be that dumb…

Oh yes they can be… for a medal and a piece of paper. Remember Judas sold Jesus to the Romans for a handful of silver. The Chinese will take over Grenada very quietly while offering gifts and that is happening right now in plain sight for all to see.

the current Govt of Grenada is blind to Chinese history – so sad to see this
