4 more Covid-19 related deaths occurred in Grenada within the last 24 hours.

A teenager is among the latest deceased. The 18-year-old, who is now publicly known to be a student of the T A Marryshow Community College (TAMCC), passed away Thursday morning from complications related to Covid-19.

The other two deaths at the General Hospital were a male and female, both of whom were over the age of 50. The fourth death was a 59-year-old, who died at home. Post mortem testing revealed that she was Covid-19 positive.

The Ministry of Health and by extension, the Government of Grenada extend deepest sympathy to the family and friends of the deceased.

The Ministry continues to encourage Grenadians who are eligible to be vaccinated to do so as the vaccines have been scientifically proven to help protect against severe disease, hospitalisation and death, in the event of breakthrough infections.

” in the event of breakthrough infections. ”
So finally an acknowledgment that vaccines are not working as promised.

What else they haven’t told us ?

@Jazmine Charles, Grenadians brought this on themselves, they wanted to play jab jab well play jab jab now nuh? The sad and unfair part is that many of those who tried to protect themselves are now being infected, shows up the lack of ethics and selfishness of the politicians and talk show hosts who were pushing the public to rebel against restrictions. @ SCW, yes, point well made just a word of advice, don’t get baited by the spider Anansi, a spider for real, a total wack job (nose blown in disdain) @ Roslyn, get well soon.

The New York Times had an interesting story a few days ago. It reported a sharp drop in Covid infections and deaths in South America ( the epicenter of the pandemic earlier this year) recently. This has surprised researchers, given the ascent of more transmissible variants in recent months. The article’s writer noted:
“Governments in South America have generally not faced the kind of apathy, politicization and conspiracy theories around vaccines that left much of the United States vulnerable to the highly contagious Delta variant.”

An 18 year old whose whole life is ahead of her/him should not be deceased!!!
What is difficult to understand about the lethal effect of Covid-19 when people have died and are dying…An 18 year old!!!
Please think of your family, friends, neighbors, children…
BECAUSE (YOU) may be the one to lead your child or your parent or grandparent to his/her Grave!!!
You got vaccines as a child!!!
NOTHING HAS CHANGED except Millions have died.
Do Not Make Yourself or Someone else A Statistic!!!!

This level of reporting is inadequate.

    1. How many of the deaths were vaccinated people?
    2. How many of the infected are fully or partially vaccinated people?
    3. How long did it take from infection to death?
    4. Which parts of Grenada are hot spots? Which parts of the country should we avoid travelling to?.

I, too, would be interested in these statistics, especially 1 & 2.

My question, though, is what difference do they make in terms of behaviours? Globally and nationally, reports are not specific, but they are all consistent that a majority of serious cases are amongst the unvaccinated population. If the number is 51% unvaccinated are those that died or are hospitalized or 90% unvaccinated, does the message change? Get vaccinated.

Similarly, given the very small sample size of Grenada and questions around available data overall, if the percentages are less than 50% are those that are unvaccinated, how would that change behaviour? Would the experience of less than 2,000 people be more meaningful than data collected from millions of cases worldwide? Do we trust the reporting here in Grenada more that the data collected in dozens of countries globally?

Essentially, then, my point is that we should definitely continue to press for more information in order to make informed decisions, but we should not get distracted by the absence of information that could be interesting to know, but ultimately would not impact the logical decision on the behaviours we should take…which is simply to get vaccinated.

Agree, it would be good to know more.
If this is of any interest:
Here are the latest statistics from where I live in Ontario, Canada
“Ontario is reporting 564 new COVID-19 cases on Tuesday…
Of the new cases reported Tuesday, 434 are in people who are not fully vaccinated or have an unknown vaccination status and 130 are in those fully vaccinated.”

        Thanks for that Poppy.

I would seem to me that a lot of folks that say they don’t trust the government are then turning around and saying the government isn’t providing enough transparency on who is and who isn’t getting sick.

Canada is a pretty reasonable place. If the official numbers are the 77% of new cases are from the unvaccinated, it’s a good bet that the number is similar here.

Please people, take the vaccine. I am at home with COVID-19. I’m an asthmatic but I’ve had my AZ vaccine. I can testify that the presence of the vaccine in my system is what gave me a fighting chance with this covid. I haven’t been hospitalized. My chest is whizzing but my lungs feels like a normal asthma attack. I’m at home using my nebulizer and I’m doing pretty ok. I haven’t had any fever or joint pains or headache. Just lost my sense of smell. Please I testament that the vaccine works!

Roslyn, thanks for sharing this – it’s great to get information directly from people actually affected. I wish you a very speedy recovery.

People take heed please, the vaccines really can save lives, your own and other people’s.

Please people get the vaccine. You might still get the virus but it will prevent you from hospitalization and death.
