  • Covid-19 Relief Fund was established in April 2020
  • Relief fund is at Grenada Co-operative Bank
  • Money will be used to procure test kits and PPEs

The United Groups of Grenada in the United Kingdom are among organisations that have contributed to government’s Covid-19 Relief Fund, which was established in April 2020.

Recently, the group, through an initiative of the Grenada High Commission in the United Kingdom, contributed EC$18,500 to the relief fund.

According to High Commissioner, Kisha Grant, this donation was the first in what she hopes is an ongoing initiative, to assist with the Covid-19 relief effort. She expressed her gratitude to the Grenada groups in the UK for their readiness to embrace the initiative, even while they were already giving individual donations to other organisations in Grenada during the pandemic. The monies were donated through the Disaster Fund at the Grenada High Commission and transferred to the government’s Covid-19 Relief Fund in Grenada.

Government established the fund at the request of people and organisations that expressed the desire to assist with financial contributions. “In response to your request, and to further streamline our procurement process of Personal Protective Equipment and other supplies, the Government of Grenada has developed the Covid-19 Relief Fund. The fund gives Grenadians, friends of Grenada and organisations the opportunity to support and partner with us, through donations, in the fight against Covid-19,” said a continuously airing radio public service announcement.

Minister, Norland Cox, who is the logistics Coordinator for Covid-19 Task Force, in his thank you letter to the UK Groups, wrote that the money will be used to procure health and safety supplies such as test kits and PPEs.

The relief fund is at the Grenada Co-operative Bank and the account number is 413000849. According to the public service announcement, contributions are accepted from Grenadians and friends of Grenada, both on island and abroad.
