Statement from Ministry of Health: 2019 Novel Coronavirus

As a result of the continued spread of the 2019 Novel Coronavirus and a new and updated threat assessment by our Ministry of Health, the Caribbean Public Health Agency (Carpha), the Pan American Health Organisation (PAHO) and the World Health Organisation (WHO); the Government of Grenada will not allow any non-national with a travel history within the last 14 days from mainland China, whether in transit or originating, to enter any local port as of 12 am on Sunday, 2 February 2020.

Any national returning to Grenada with similar travel history will be quarantined for 14 days.

While the Government of Grenada recognises and commends the tremendous efforts being made by the Government of the People’s Republic of China and the WHO, we believe that in light of the accelerated rate of confirmed cases, the decision of some of our fellow Caricom nations and the need to alleviate the uneasiness of our citizens in Grenada, we must make this decision, to prevent the global threat from reaching our borders. As a responsible government we are guided by both the international suggested protocols and separately by the wishes and concerns of our citizenry. It is in an effort to find the balance between these two guiding principles that we have made this decision.

The travel ban on non-nationals with recent travel history to mainland China and the mandatory quarantine for Grenadians returning home after visiting or transiting through mainland China, will remain in effect until further notice. All travellers are urged to be guided accordingly.

What is now know is that you can be infected before the symptoms appear and that the virus infection rate is 2 – 3 – that is, 1 person on average infects 2 – 3 persons. We also know that you can catch the virus up to 6 feet away from the infected person. So if you can be carrying the virus without showing and signs of infection symptoms, how would our screening policies actually work?

Hmmmm, wow this is Grenada. Please get a medical doctor to be the ministet of health, so that they can make informed ,timely decisions. A chain smoker is not the best .

One rule for the businessmen of China and one for the poor citizens returning. Shame on the prime minister. He doesn’t care about the people and put everyone at risk. Lock him up!

Unfortunately the government doesn’t understand how the sickness works therefore the minister of health should not be taking it lightly. This backwardness have to stopped this is 2020 not 1955 get down or lay down?

Grenada is way to small and the health system is not able to deal with such a situation. That is something the Government of Grenada knows. The decision of allowing these planes to land on our island was not in the best interest of the citizens.Especially not fully understanding this disease. The Government of Grenada needs to stop making these decisions because it can put the entire country at risk

Have no idea if what I am about to write is true, so if it is not please forgive me.
If have heard that a plane load of Chinese national arrived in Grenada at approximately 3:00AM few days ago via a private plane.
If that report is true, I will like to know if those individuals were placed in isolation for the 2 weeks isolation period.

As the WHO stated this will be counter active because people will now try to enter illegaly and out of sight of the authorities.
But since all countries are in a mass hysteria I can understand they are doing this.
However my opinion is that this mass hysteria is created by the pharmaceutical industry. By creating this fear they are going to make billions of dollars with a vaccine that probably doesn’t even work. They had done the same thing with the swine flu.
Remember that more people die from the normal flu than from this Corona virus. And sofar only Male persons over 55 have died who were already sick most of them having serious cases of diabetes and/or high blood pressure. So the KFC lovers might die, but if you eat healthy natural Grenadian food you have not much to fear. And also most people who catch the virus never even realize they had it !

A responsible Government would have taken precautionary measures from the beginning and not after the fact of allowing people from China to enter the country when they did. As a matter of fact, the government should be reprimanded for such carelessness. What measures are in place to quarantine those who do come from China and other regions with the disease.

Still screen. People carry multiple passports.
