Continuing its long tradition of fostering sport and youth, the Grenada Electricity Services has again joined forces with the Grenada Olympic Committee to support Team Grenada for the upcoming Rio Olympics.

Making the presentation ahead of the Olympic Day Run activities on Saturday, 18 June 2016, Ms Karel Hood, an accountant at Grenlec noted, “Our Community Partnership Initiative is very important to us as it the vehicle through which we help our communities realise their dreams… Through these activities, we are also creating opportunities for communities to have healthy recreational outlets and to positively engage our nation’s youth”.

Mr Royston LaHee, President of the Grenada Olympic Committee, expressed his organisation’s gratitude for the support to help Grenada’s 6-member delegation. He expressed his organisation’s hope of success during the August 2016 games.

For the second consecutive time, Grenlec has contributed $30,000 to the assist with meeting the costs of Grenada’s Olympic team. In so doing, the Company has added to the growing list of developmental partnerships that it has invested in over the last 22 years.

Among them, Grenlec highlights the recent construction of a new hard court in Boca and its collaboration with the women’s cricket programme from which world champion, Afy Fletcher has emerged. Communities through Grenada have also benefitted from lighting of playing fields or construction of bleachers, including Grand Mal, Hermitage, the Roy St John Playing Field, Progress Park and Power Park.

Ms Hood wished Grenada’s Olympic team every success and presented a circle, “a symbol of Grenlec’s continuous commitment to partnerships that develop our youth and sport.
