In celebration of the International Month of Creole Culture, The Alliance Française de la Grenade has invited poet and singer Joby Bernabé to treat the Grenadian audience to his exceptional voice on Saturday 25 October at 8:30pm at the GBSS Auditorium.
With over 30 years of singing and acting career, Bernabé has established himself as one of the greatest poets and storytellers of the region and beyond. Accompanied by his musicians José Longlade and Alfred Fantone, Bernabé will tell about the beauty and pain of the Caribbean and the world, in French and Creole, with his own texts and those of Aimé Césaire, Léon Gontran Damas, Xavier Orville, Pablo Neruda and other poets of the world.
Bernabé is the holder of the medal of the National Order of Merit (1994) and Officer of the Order of Arts and Letters (2006). He is also the president or the founder of several artistic organisations in Martinique. As an actor, he has played in movies by directors Euzhan Palcy, Alain Maline, José Hayot and Olivier Beaudot Montézume. He received an award for his whole career by SACEM in 2009.
