In an effort to preserve the Grenadian Patois language, as well as to introduce it to the island’s education system, the Ministry of Culture will host 4 days of training in Grenadian Patios for students and teachers.
The workshop, facilitated by members of the Grenada Creole Society, will be held at the La Castigne Family House in Concord, St John on 7-8 July, and 14-15 July from 9:00 am to 2:00 pm.
Fifty-five persons are expected to attend. Participants are expected to learn:
- The importance of keeping the tradition of speaking Patois alive in Grenada
- Patois greetings
- Common Grenadian sayings
- One locally composed Patois song.
The workshop is an extension of the 2012 Youth Conference on Preserving Intangible Cultural Heritage.
