St. Vincent and the Grenadines– ARC Magazine, in collaboration with Groundation Grenada and Clarke’s Court, invites you to the launch of ARC Magazine’s Issue Nº7 on the 6th of June 2013 starting at 7:30p.m. Located at Clarke’s Court Bar at Fort Matthew, St. George, Grenada, the event aims to provide a setting for Grenadian artists, writers, performers and cultural activists to connect with attendees of the 38th Annual Caribbean Studies Association Conference in a dynamic, social context.

The evening’s programming, while informal, will engage and showcase various disciplines. The Guyanese-born, Grenada-based writer Oonya Kempadoo, will read from her latest novel, “All Decent Animals,” and will initiate a brief conversation around her social practice with Malaika Brooks-Smith-Lowe, director of Groundation Grenada.

The event will culminate with a screening of video and short film works by several Caribbean- and diaspora-based artists curated by Holly Bynoe and Yasmine Espert. We are thrilled to announce the premiere of the Jamaican portmanteau, “Ring Di Alarm!,” produced by 6 Jamaica-based directors comprising the collective, New Caribbean Cinema, which includes Storm Saulter, Michael “Ras Tingle” Tingling, Michelle Serieux, Nile Saulter, Kyle Chin and Joel Burke. The evening will also present experimental works from Jayson Keeling (NYC), Shirley Bruno (NYC), Martine Jean (Haiti/USA), Jeannette Ehlers (Denmark) and Malaika Brooks-Smith-Lowe (Grenada).

Copies of Issue Nº7 will be available for purchase for an introductory price of $20.00USD or $52.00ECD. Issue Nº7 presents a compendium of works from over 40 artists, writers and instigators who explore formal and informal issues of citizenship, representation, ownership, vestiges of melancholia and nostalgia, as well as renderings of the unburdening of self. Cash and cheques will be acceptable forms of payments. Annual subscribers will be offered discounts and a chance to collect a very limited number of back issues.

Light refreshments, sponsored by Clarke’s Court, will be served along a selection of local hors d’oeuvres for the evening and the Clarke’s Court Live Band will provide entertainment in the late evening. Transportation to and from Grand Anse Beach Resort will be provided for 40 CSA attendees who will be participating in this year’s conference programming.

The event is free and open to the public. Fort Matthew is located at Richmond Heights in St. George’s, Grenada. To RSVP email [email protected] or visit: https://www.facebook.com/events/259265070881177/

To ensure that there will be enough space allocated, please RSVP soonest. Event maximum is 80 persons.
