The Executive Director Grenada Chamber of Industry and Commerce and Vice-Chair of the Caribbean Network of Chambers (CARICHAM) Petipha Lewis, recently concluded a successful courtesy visit to the Trinidad and Tobago Chamber of Industry and Commerce (TTCIC) and the American Chamber of Commerce, Trinidad and Tobago Chapter (AMCHAM) in Port of Spain, Trinidad.
This visit, part of CARICHAM’s ongoing efforts to promote the interests of Caribbean Chambers of Commerce, focused on crucial matters such as trade facilitation, business resilience, and digital transformation.
During her meeting with the TTCIC, Lewis engaged in productive discussions with Stephen de Gannes, Executive Director, and members of the management team. They explored avenues to enhance trade facilitation within the Caribbean region, with particular emphasis on improving intraregional travel. Both parties recognised the significance of seamless connectivity and the positive impact it can have on regional trade and economic development. Lewis expressed her hope for enhanced trade facilitation and increased collaboration among Caribbean nations.
Lewis expressed her enthusiasm for the visit, stating, “I am honoured to have had the opportunity to meet with the Trinidad and Tobago Chamber of Industry and Commerce. This visit reaffirmed the value of collaboration among regional chambers of commerce in driving trade facilitation and economic prosperity. CARICHAM is committed to working hand in hand with the TTCIC and other chambers to enhance business resilience, promote intraregional travel, and create a seamless environment for trade within the Caribbean community.”
Stephen de Gannes, Executive Director of the TTCIC, shared his thoughts on the visit, saying, “Ms Lewis’s visit has reinforced the commitment of CARICHAM and the TTCIC to promoting trade facilitation and fostering resilient business practices in Trinidad and Tobago. Lewis also met with Melissa Pierre, Senior Trade and Policy Specialist, during her visit to the AMCHAM Trinidad and Tobago chapter. Their discussions centred around exploring opportunities for deeper collaboration and knowledge sharing between CARICHAM and AMCHAM. Both parties recognised the importance of fostering a robust exchange of ideas to promote trade and investment between the Caribbean and the United States, while also emphasising the need for enhanced trade facilitation within the region. The visit highlighted the potential for increased collaboration between the American Chamber of Commerce and the Caribbean Chamber, opening doors for valuable knowledge exchange and creating opportunities for businesses in both regions.
