The Government of Grenada held the first set of money management sessions with public sector employees and pensioners on Thursday, 6 April 2023, ahead of the scheduled rollout of bi-monthly payments of personal emoluments and pensions on 15 April 2023.
The first sessions were led by Financial Literacy Expert Dr Terrance Martin and focused on Money Personalities, Financial Goal Planning and Personal Financial Statements.
Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Finance, Mike Sylvester, welcomed the initiative to sensitise workers on basic financial management, which he described as a critical life skill. “Financial literacy, or money management, is a fundamental skill that benefits every individual,” Sylvester said. “The sessions for the first day were quite interactive, with many real-life examples and suggestions for practical tools that can be used to help manage finances. The goal is to expose as many public sector employees and pensioners to this training as possible and then to take the sessions to schools and the wider citizenry.”
Money management sensitisation sessions were identified by employees and pensioners as a necessary tool to help manage the change to the bi-monthly payment system during the Government’s extensive consultations with stakeholders.
The next virtual training session for government employees and pensioners will be held on Wednesday, 12 April 2023, and will focus on Credit, Investing and Insurance.
