Forecasters at the Meteorological Office at the Maurice Bishop International Airport have advised that a tropical wave is east of the Lesser Antilles.
According to the weather outlook, the wave is embedded in the ITCZ, and isolated thunderstorms are present.
Weather models signal that the axis of the wave should traverse the island chain on Sunday. Moisture and instability trailing the wave have a medium potential to support periods of cloudiness and rainfall over the next 2 to 3 days with the chance of thunderstorms.
The general public is warned that the predicted weather conditions as a result of the approaching Tropical Wave can result in possible flooding during the next 2 to 3 days. The conditions being predicted are compounded by rainfall events during the past week which have caused flooding and landslides. Therefore, there is an increase in the likelihood of flooding in areas that are already waterlogged, and landslides or rock fall on hilly terrain.
This warning is supported by the extended weather forecasts issued at 6 pm Saturday, 5 November predicting weather conditions to be partly cloudy to cloudy with light to moderate showers/periods of rain, which may become heavy at times and accompanied by thunderstorms, becoming more frequent overnight, for the next 3 days.
NaDMA, therefore, encourages citizens to prepare their homes and surroundings for these possible adverse conditions; clean drains and gutters, prepare sandbags, and cut overhanging trees so as to avoid severe damage to property and infrastructure.
