Media Week 2014 will be observed from 8–15 June, and will begin with a church service on Sunday 8 June at the St George Bible Holiness Church, Lucas Street, at 10:00 am.
A series of interviews will also be conducted by members of the executive on the various media houses during the week, including GBN Mornings and Chit Chat on CC6, as well as visits to radio stations. As part of activities this year, a motivational discussion will be conducted at Wesley College in St George’s, and a special presentation of a food hamper will be made to the Top Hill Senior Citizens Home by media workers on Carriacou, on behalf of MWAG (Media Workers Association of Grenada).
The usual Fantasia lime will take place on Friday 13 June, coupled with a karaoke night at The Owl Restaurant and Bar in Morne Rouge. Media Workers are also invited to join the Hash House Harriers on Saturday 14 June, for an exciting and what is expected to be a scenic afternoon hash through St Mark.
The week will close with a motorcade which leaves from Green Bridge at 9 am SHARP and ends in Chantimelle, St Patrick, where media workers will engage in a fun day, including acting as judges at a food tasting competition. A number of local artistes and entertainers are expected to participate in the fun day activities as well. Media houses are encouraged to brand their vehicles and their persons with their company’s logos, especially for the motorcade and fun day.

My fellow media workers,
As we celebrate Media Week 2014 from 8–15 June under the theme, “Complementing Development, Pioneering Freedom of the Press and Effective Dissemination of Information,” I urge us all to remain focused, remembering always that our function as media workers is to educate and inform on issues of importance to our society.
While we may all possess strengths and expertise in different fields in the profession, our ultimate goal should be the same. Over the past year we have faced many challenges, but we have continuously forged ahead. Let us examine our theme carefully and its importance in driving home the message that we need to be free to investigate issues and must do so effectively in order to disseminate quality and accurate information to the public.
As we all participate in the activities planned for the week, including the church service in St George’s, contribution toward the food hamper initiative, our Friday night lime, and the highly anticipated fun day in Chantimelle, St Patrick, let us do so with the aim of continuing to uplift each other in our daily duties and interact with some of the people we serve, as media workers. I wish you all a productive Media Week 2014, and the continued participation from all members of the association.
