Michelle Phillip, owner of Spice Isle Retreat Spa, has been working tirelessly on a project to raise educational standards in the Beauty and Spa Industry here in Grenada over the past two years, and is proud to report that next month will see the start of this project.
ITEC stands for International Therapy Examination Council, and offers qualifications that are internationally recognised in over 38 countries. Within the Beauty Industry ITEC offer a variety of modules that encompass, beauty, massage, skin therapy and hairdressing. Michelle Phillip, in partnership with Patricia Berry Greenidge, secured funding from the Barbadian Government to offer training in Grenada for 12 to 15 students over a 6 month period for the Anatomy and Physiology Diploma, plus the Holistic Massage Diploma.
The training will be heavily subsidized and is aimed at attracting Grenadians who are already in the industry or who are looking to enter in to it. “These qualifications are internationally accredited, so once gained will allow you to apply for jobs anywhere in the world. The modules will offer practical, theory and independent study sessions and the external examiner will come to assess the final exams,” Phillip told us and also mentioned, “I am committed to bring in a standard to the Beauty/Spa industry here in Grenada, so we can all be on judged on a level playing field with our Beauty Industry Partners and the wider Tourism Industry. You must have a passion for the industry and be able to offer great customer service”.
