Bureau of Western Hemisphere Affairs Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary (PDAS) Julie Chung, visited Grenada from 7 to 8 March 2019.
PDAS Chung’s visit sought to promote the US–Caribbean 2020 Strategy – a multi-year strategy to increase the security, prosperity, and well-being of the people of the United States and the Caribbean.
During her visit, PDAS Chung accompanied by US Ambassador to Grenada, Linda Taglialatela, and US Embassy Grenada Principal Officer Stephen Frahm, met with Dr the Honourable Keith Mitchell, Prime Minister of Grenada. During the meeting, they discussed how the United States could encourage increased engagement to enhance regional security cooperation, advance democratic principles, and increase trade and investments in Grenada.
PDAS Chung ended her visit by participating in an International Women’s Day event hosted by the US Embassy at the TA Marryshow Community College. Hon. Delma Thomas, Minister of Social Development, Housing & Community Empowerment joined PDAS Chung and Ambassador Taglialatela on a panel where they discussed the theme of Balancing Gender Inequality. PDAS Chung also had the opportunity to meet with students and staff at the St George’s University and was given a walking tour of the facilities by Joshua Yetman, Associate Director of Communications.
PDAS Chung expressed the hope that her visit would reaffirm the United States’ commitment to forging stronger bonds with Grenada and the countries of the Eastern Caribbean region.
