Government has announced that all public servants in possession of a ticket for the upcoming 2 one-day international cricket games scheduled to take place at the National Stadium will be getting the day off from work to attend the games.
Acting Sports Minister, Winston Garraway announced during the Tuesday morning weekly post-cabinet briefing that Cabinet made the decision to afford public servants the time off, but they must present the ticket to the relevant heads of department to receive the final approval to be off duty on the days of cricket.
“So, you have Monday the 25th and Wednesday the 27th, but you must present your ticket to your permanent secretary who will ascertain you have a valid ticket and to give you the time off,” said Garraway who confirmed that a number of students will be receiving complimentary tickets to attend the games.
He said that the intention of government and the organisers is to fill the 16,000-capacity seat facility to make it a memorable event. All adults who purchased a ticket will be afforded one for a child under 12, while senior citizens are receiving complimentary tickets.
Garraway calls on the public to come out and support the event because it is in part, a farewell for batsman Chris Gayle, who will retire from one-day international cricket after this summer’s World Cup.
So the public workers in the outlying parishes have to journey to the Botanical Gardens in St. George to show their tickets to the Oermanent Secretary.
