The St Andrew’s Development Organisation (SADO) together with the Pink Ribbon Society and other stakeholders hosted for another year the St Andrew Breast Cancer Awareness Walk on 27 October 2018. The walk saw nearly 300 people participating in the initiative from the Tivoli Junction, onto the Grenville Carpark.

Among the participants were the members of parliament for St Andrew Minister Emmalin Pierre, Minister Kate Lewis, Minister Delma Thomas and Non-resident Ambassador to the UK, Kisha Alexander Grant.

President of the Grenada Breast Cancer Society Glenda Seales said, “Anyone of us can come down with breast cancer. We’re asking everyone to check themselves. Awareness is the key.”

She urged persons living with the disease to engage the society. “We have persons living who were diagnosed 26 years ago; we have persons who were diagnosed 2 years ago. We’re inviting anyone out there who has breast cancer and are afraid, we are here  for you and we are here to support you.”

The programme for the event included

  • Welcome – Royan Charles SADO President,
  • Circle Formation Healing /Motivational Devotion – Pastor Samuel Niles
  • Survivor/victim testimony – Margaret Alleyne and Ann Peter
  • Donation of Token Bags – Shiloni Joseph, Dave Evans, Sheldon Archibald and Kurt Christopher – Rotary, Rotaract, Bikaholiks and Leos
  • Presentation to Pink Ribbon Society by St Andrew Leos Club
  • Song Dedication by the Big Parish Artiste and St Joseph’s Convent Grenville Drama Club
  • Remarks by Pink Ribbon President – Glenda Seales
  • Remarks – Hon. Emmalin Pierre, Parliamentary Representative St Andrew SE
  • Vote of Thanks – Adriya Joseph, St Andrew’s Rotaract Club of Grenada East.

The survivors released balloons as a symbol of hope for the future.

During her remarks Minister Pierre said, “I believe one of the important target groups as we do this are those persons who have not been diagnosed, as women we need to check ourselves. We take so much for granted, let us not leave it to accident. Let us take in front, to check ourselves, check our situations. Lives can be saved”.

All proceeds from this event goes to the Pink Ribbon Society of Grenada in their efforts to assist victims of this dreaded disease. Special thanks to our sponsors, and to our supportive partners. All victims/survivors were presented with gift bags from SADO as a small token of love and support to them.

Sincere thanks to all who participated and supported this worthy cause. Without this support, this event would not have been as successful as it was on Saturday, 27 October 2018. We will be back next year on 26 October 2019. We would like to encourage all to come on board be part of the support system as we fight to eradicate this dreaded disease that continues to take our loved ones from us. #walkforthecure #allforone.
