Using as its theme for this year, “Services: The way we Grow” the Grenada Coalition of Services Industries (GCSI) recognises this week (29 October to 2 November) as its 3rd National Services Week.
Speaking on the on the occasion of Services Week, GCSI Chairman, Jude Bernard, highlighted the fact that service related activities account for over 80% of Grenada’s GDP and that while Grenada has been recording massive (and ever-growing) deficits in its trade in goods (hundreds or millions), it enjoys significant surplus in its trade in services (estimated and at roughly $200,000,000 per year), thus playing a major role in helping to keep in check Grenada’s balance of trade deficit to the rest of the world
He, therefore, emphasises the urgent need for Grenada to explore all opportunities for increasing its production and export of services since, in addition to making a significant positive impact on Employment creation and Foreign Exchange earnings, in light of the pivotal role of services in future economic development.
Activities planned for the week include media appearances by GCSI and Ministry of Trade officials; an e-conference on Careers in Services for secondary school students Thursday, 1 November; the launch of GCSI 2019 Services Expo and a closing ceremony and award event for graduates of a recently conducted internationally acclaimed training programme “Services Go Global” as well as other programmes facilitated by GCSI over the past 12 months.
