The Government and People of Grenada have been paying glowing tribute to the members of the outstanding Windward Islands Volcanoes team for pulling off a pulsating victory over Barbados Pride to once again be crowned Super 50 Cricket Champions of the Region.
Prime Minister Dr Keith Mitchell has been showering the players with praises as he headed for Haiti on Monday to attend the Caricom Heads of Government Conference.
Volcanoes defeated defending champions Barbados Pride by 3 wickets in a nail-biting final to claim their third Super 50 Cup title, at the Coolidge Cricket Ground in Antigua.
“This again is another major feat by our Windward Islands Cricketers and it firmly demonstrates the kind of progress we have been making regarding individual effort as a collective sub-regional outfit,” the Prime Minister said before boarding a plane for Haiti where he will officially hand over his chairmanship to President Jovenel Moïse.
“Apart from all the outstanding Windward Islands players from Dominica, St Lucia and St Vincent and the Grenadines, allow me to recognise and commend my Grenadian countrymen who did very well and played a pivotal role in bringing about this level of success,” said Prime Minister Mitchell who is preparing for a 13 March General Election.
Grenadians who are members of the victorious Volcanoes are Devon Smith, Roland Cato, Ryan John and Josh Thomas.
Cato was named Man of the Match for a well-played 54 in an important 80 run partnership with Kavem Hodge.
Grenada’s Andre Fletcher who is playing in the Pakistan Super League was the joint best wicketkeeper with Denesh Ramdin of T&T Red Force with 14 catches a piece.
