The increase comes as the Ministry of Health and Social Security — Primary Health Care programme moves into its third phase.
Current statistics indicate that since the launch of the program on 24 July, the number of home visits by Nurses to patients has been climbing steadily with 131 visits recorded for the month of July in St Patrick.
In analysing the data, the Ministry’s Chief Community Health Nurse, Lydia Francis, says it’s very significant and rather encouraging especially as the program is being rolled out to the other parts of the island.
Francis was also confident that the July figures will be surpassed as more and more Grenadians buys into the PHC program and appreciates the health benefits.
Home visits have also begun in the parishes of St Mark, St John and St George, which are also part of the Primary Health Care zone.
However, with the pending roll out of more PHC services in St George’s, the Ministry has recruited and deployed additional registered nurses in the St., George’s Health district to cover the town of St. George, and Grand Anse.
The move is geared towards beefing up existing services, and facilitates the extended hours which are expected to begin later this month. Meanwhile, extended hours of services continue at the Sauteurs Health Complex, where nurses, doctors and a pharmacist are available until 7:00:pm—- Monday through Friday.
