The Bel Air Home, Queen Elizabeth Home, and Grand Anse Home for the Aged, are the newest beneficiaries of solar energy projects under the Grenlec Community Partnership Initiative (GCPI). On Friday, 27 November, representatives from each institution signed their contracts for the installation of 14 kW photovoltaic (PV) systems.
The project will reduce the homes’ energy bills, by applying credit each month for the energy produced and supplied to Grenlec from the PV systems. It comes as part of Grenlec’s overall plan to assist care and educational institutions reduce their energy costs. The approximate cost of the project is EC$200,000 and will be completed by the end of December 2015.
This solar initiative as well as others, is part of Grenlec’s long-term commitment to increase renewable energy generation, and achieve the shared goal of Grenlec and the Government of Grenada for 20% renewable energy by 2020.
