On Sunday, 6 December, the Rotary Club of Grenada will host one of its annual signature fundraising events, Carols by Candlelight. Quarantine Recreational Park, the home venue for the event since 2009, will be transformed into a magical, Christmas Wonderland, with lots in store for children, teenagers and adults.

The day’s events will begin at 4 pm with a visit from Santa Claus bearing gifts for over 1,000 children, and providing photo opportunities for anyone who wants. From 6pm, Quarantine Point will come alive as patrons bearing electric candles will be treated to a special Christmas concert, directed by award-winning playwright, Francis Urias Peters. The show will feature a number top Grenadian artistes & performers; Randal Robinson, Jay & Lisa McDonald, Zeleka Peters, Emily Rapier, Jonathan James, Jenny J, Rita Smith, Inspector as well as the Police Band and Touch of Grace. The artistes will perform musical renditions from various genres. Following their performances, the evening will conclude with the showing of a Christmas movie from the ‘big screen’.

Ms Alana Wilson, Public Relations Officer for the Rotary Club of Grenada, noted the importance of this community event, “Christmas is often referred to as the time for family, friends and community. Carols by Candlelight offers a truly family-oriented programme in keeping with the spirit of the season. Additionally, all funds raised from sales at the event will be used to maintain and upgrade Quarantine Point Community Park, which is available for public use” she commented.

In addition to the above mentioned concert and movie, this year’s event will also feature a photo booth to capture fun moments, and a bonfire for roasting of S’Mores, plus specialty foods and a fully stocked bar.

The Rotary Club of Grenada consists of a number of volunteers who contribute their resources and time to various worthwhile community projects. Some of these ventures include the maintenance of the School for Special Education, polio eradication campaign, water sanitation and hygiene projects and educational development, which benefit individuals and the community.

The Rotary Club of Grenada thanks the many sponsors, who contributed towards the hosting of the event.

Tickets for Carols by Candlelight can be purchased at Niki’s Shoe Shop in St George’s, Gittens Pharmacy in Grand Anse, any member of the Rotary Club, or patrons can pay at the gate.
