Nurses from the St John/St Mark, on Monday won the inaugural inter-district immunization quiz organized by the Ministry of Health to end this year’s observance of Vaccination Week of the Americas.
Ten nurses representing all five districts on the mainland participated in the quiz with St John/St Mark, scoring 35 points. St David was second with 30, and St Patrick third with 20 points.
The quiz, which was primarily based on Immunization practice and protocols, was aimed at testing the knowledge of the nurses who act as front-line workers leading the Ministry’s Immunization program.
Following the friendly quiz contest, Health Minister the Hon. Nickolas Steele, Chief Medical Officer, Dr George Mitchell, and PAHO’s Country Program Manager, Mrs Tessa Stroude, all commended the participants, organizers of the quiz and the general Vaccination Week 2015 organizing committee for staging a successful week of activities.
The Minister was also high in praise of the efforts of Grenadian healthcare providers in promoting the importance and benefits of immunization. Grenada has maintained over 95% immunization coverage.
However, Minister Steele in addressing the small gathering of nurses and other categories of health workers pledged to continue serving the health interest of the citizens of Grenada. The Grenadian Health Minister, as always, seized the opportunity to encourage his staff to do their best at all times, reminding them that they are the pillars of healthcare in the tri-island state.
Meanwhile St Patrick’s Health District has won the award for the Highest Immunization Coverage while St David took the award for the most accurate, complete and timely submission of Epi data.
Also attending the activity were Dr Calum Macpherson, Director and Trevor Noel, Assistant Director of the Windward Islands Research and Education Foundation (WINDREF).
