The Division of Culture under the Ministry of Tourism, Creative Economy and Culture has begun early preparations for one of its signature cultural events, the Festival of the Arts, which is scheduled to take place from September to December 2026.
As part of these preparatory activities, a choir development workshop will be held on Friday, 20 February 2026, from 8:30 am to 3 pm at the Public Workers Union Building, Port Highway, St George’s.
The workshop will be facilitated by Valerie Daniel–Burkhardt, who will provide choir teachers with training in essential vocal and performance techniques. These include breathing, voice placement and projection, diction, interpretation, creativity, vocal anatomy, posture, rhythm, intonation, and conducting skills.
In its efforts to ensure the continued growth and success of the Festival of the Arts, the Division of Culture commissioned a comprehensive review of the festival in 2024.
The review assessed the festival’s overall impact and identified opportunities for enhancement, with the goal of elevating it into a more vibrant, relevant, and engaging cultural event that delivers a high-quality experience for participants and audiences alike.
First launched in the 1960s, the biennial Festival of the Arts was created to showcase the creative and artistic talents of students across Grenada, Carriacou, and Petite Martinique.
It provides a competitive platform for schools in a range of artistic disciplines, including dance, music, and theatre, and continues to play a vital role in nurturing cultural expression among the nation’s youth.
