As part of Credit Union Month and Financial Information Month 2025, Nexa Credit Union hosted a Financial Wellness Seminar on 4 October 2025, focused on retirement planning, social security, and insurance, in collaboration with the National Insurance Scheme (NIS) and Insurance Consultants of Grenada Ltd.

The event brought together financial and industry experts who shared valuable insights on preparing for retirement and safeguarding one’s finances and legacy. Presentations were delivered by Lisa Douglas, Public Relations Officer of the National Insurance Scheme; Delores Joseph, Health, Life and Pension Benefits Supervisor of Insurance Consultants Grenada Ltd., and Xiomara Cherebin-Forsyth, Nexa’s In-House Legal Counsel.

Together, the presenters guided participants through key areas and interactive sessions, including understanding and maximising NIS benefits, the role of insurance in financial protection, and essential legal considerations such as will preparation and estate planning for retirement.

One of the 7 cooperative principles is education, and Nexa Credit Union remains committed to upholding these principles. The seminar, which was open to both members and non-members, was specifically designed to fulfil the credit union’s mandate of enhancing financial literacy and educating members and potential members in the communities it serves.

At Nexa Credit Union, it is the belief that education is one of the most effective tools for individuals to develop themselves, overcome poverty, and improve their overall well-being, and this seminar was one way the credit union continues to support individuals on that journey.

Throughout the event, participants were actively engaged, asking questions, sharing personal experiences and participating in practical exercises, creating an open environment for learning and dialogue.  The lively discussions highlighted the importance of proactive financial planning and community-based education.

Financial Information Month, observed annually across the Eastern Caribbean, encourages individuals and organisations to make informed decisions that lead to long-term financial success. Nexa Credit Union’s participation and partnerships underscore its ongoing commitment to supporting that mission.
