Grenada is in arrears of paying its membership fee to the United Nations for the years 2024 and 2025, according to information published by the United Nations, as it prepared to host the 80th General Assembly (UNGA), which will open on Tuesday, 9 September 2025. The first day of the high-level General Debate starts on Tuesday, 23 September.
The payment portal shows that as of 19 August 2025, Grenada was not one of the 121 Member States that paid its regular budget assessments in full. A review of the 2024 portal shows that Grenada is one of the members whose membership continues to remain outstanding.
The portal, which records as far back as 2019, shows that Grenada traditionally pays its membership fee in December of any given year except for 2020, when the payment was made in September.
The annual payment to the UN membership is between US$28,000 and US$30,000 according to UN public records.
Since becoming Prime Minister in June 2022, Honourable Dickon Mitchell has addressed the UN General Assembly in 2022, 2023 and 2024. Government is yet to publicly disclose who will be addressing the UNGA high-level debate on behalf of Grenada for 2025.
Grenada joined the United Nations on 17 September 1974. This was the same year the country gained independence and became a member of the Commonwealth.
