Residents of Moliniere and surrounding communities demonstrated collaborative participation at recent community meetings hosted by Consolidated Contractors Company Caribbean Inc. (CCCCI), for consultations regarding the Southern St George Water Supply Expansion Project, Lot 1 Construction Work.
The community meetings in Moliniere focused on the implementation of Construction Work for Lot 1 of the transformative water infrastructure initiative that is managed by
Nawasa and funded by the United Kingdom Caribbean Infrastructure Partnership Fund (UKCIF) and the Caribbean Development Bank (CDB). The Moliniere community consultations, which were hosted on Thursday, 10 July and Thursday, 24 July, brought together local residents, project officials, and technical experts to discuss the critical water supply improvements planned for the area.
CCCCI Managing Director Nelson Louison provided comprehensive presentations on the project construction scope, implementation works, and community impact mitigation measures for the Project. Louison outlined the specific scope of Lot 1, which includes the construction of 2 new potable water storage tanks totalling 500,000 gallons, and installing new water distribution infrastructure. He detailed construction timelines, safety protocols, and measures designed to minimise disruption to residents’ daily routines. According to Louison, “the active participation of the Moliniere community is invaluable to the success of this project.” He further indicated that “the community input helps the CCCCI team to refine our approach and ensures we deliver infrastructure improvements that truly serve the community’s long-term needs.”
Residents also raised important questions about construction scheduling, traffic management during implementation phases, protection of local roadways, and measures to safeguard vulnerable community members during construction activities. CCCCI Project Manager Van Den Heuvel addressed each concern with detailed explanations of safety protocols and community protection measures. “We are committed to maintaining the highest standards of safety and environmental responsibility throughout this project,” he assured attendees. Additionally, the CCCCI Community Liaison Officer Stephen Antoine indicated that “Our team will work closely with local authorities and community leaders to ensure that construction activities are conducted with minimal negative disruptions on the daily life in Moliniere.”
The meeting highlighted several key project themes, including:
- Local Employment Priority: Community residents will receive preference for construction-related job opportunities
- Minimal Service Interruption: Advanced planning and phased implementation is designed to maintain water services during construction
- Environmental Protection: Information from the Environmental and Social Management Plan was shared with the meeting
- Grievance Redress Mechanism: A formal process is established for receiving, assessing, and resolving complaints or feedback from the community
Community members expressed appreciation for the transparent consultation process and CCCCI’s commitment to addressing local concerns. Louison confirmed the establishment of multiple communication channels for ongoing community dialogue, including a dedicated community liaison system to provide real-time project updates and address any issues that may arise during implementation.
Louison concluded by thanking the community for their engagement and reiterated that “at CCCCI, we believe that successful infrastructure development requires genuine partnership with the communities we serve. The feedback we received this evening will directly inform our implementation strategy for Lot 1.”
The successful Moliniere meeting represents another significant milestone in the comprehensive community engagement programme being undertaken by CCCCI for the Southern St George Water Supply Expansion Project, and demonstrates the collaborative partnership between local authorities and the communities benefiting from this vital infrastructure investment. The Lot 1 works of the Southern St George Water Supply Expansion Project are implemented through a partnership between the Caribbean Development Bank, UK Aid, the Government of Grenada, Nawasa, and Consolidated Contractors Company Caribbean Inc.
